The Bengali Association of Greater Chicago (BAGC) celebrated its annual Durga Utsav at Bartlett High School with traditional fervor and enthusiasm which was held from Oct. 16-18 .
BAGC and its team of volunteers went an extra step to get the traditional feel of organizing this grand celebrations which had dance, music, conch shells and food.
The religious heads performed the Puja and flower offerings, and distributed ‘prasad’ for all three days of the celebrations.
The enthusiastic Bangla community worked hard to prepare this event and also participate in arts and cultural activities .
A select group of artists and performers from Kolkata and Mumbai performed during the three days of festivities, including the popular band from Kolkata, Chandrabindoo and all women classical band led by eminent classical vocalist Kaushiki Chakraborty.
Most of the dramas and dance featured love interaction by Radha and Krishna. On October 16, Indian Idol fame singer Rajdeep Chatterjee performed by singing popular Bollywood and Bangla songs.
The BAGC formed in 1976 at a weekend party at Bankim Saha’s house has transformed into a large and most well-recognized South Asian community organizations in Illinois.
Current Board president Sandeep Chaudhari, vice president Bikram Dewanjee, secretary Mallika Sarkar, treasurer Udit Mukherjee and BB chairperson Mala Palit have all been involved in maintaining the organization’s presence in the overall community.
