The South Asian Olympic Council (SAOC), in a meeting chaired by the President of SAOC and Nepal Olympic Committee Jeevan Ram Shrestha, has declared that it will propose 28 sports disciplines for the 13th South Asia Games, which has been scheduled to be held in Nepal in 2019.
In the meeting, the committee also decided to finalize 25 events for the 13th South Asian Games in the next meeting that will be held during the Asian Martial Arts Indoor Games that will be organized in Turkmenistan in September, this year. While speaking about the outcome of the meeting, the NOC president Shrestha said that apart from the 23 events that were practiced in last SA Games held in India, there will be Karate, Golf, Cricket Sepak Takraw and Fencing in the 13th SA Games.
Discussion on the exit of Afghanistan from the South Asian Games was also held in the meeting. Apart from this, there was a discussion about picking up the host of the 14th South Asian Games, where the attendees agreed to take the final decision in the next meeting that will be held in Maldives later this year. While speaking on the preparation, NOC president Shrestha said that International Hockey Federation has assured Nepal to provide turf for the event if Nepal can arrange a venue with international standard.
While speaking on the issue of the status amendment, Shrestha said that SAOC has agreed to work with a new model to pick up the hosts for next SA Games. He added saying that the SAOC has decided to work the new model that will require commitment from the government of host countries along with fund deposit.
