Sachin: A Billion Dreams is a documentary film on the life of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. Many people have wondered what is the point of making such a biopic when the memories of the master blaster are still fresh on people’s mind. On top of that, it is not even a genuine cinema like M.S. Dhoni- The Untold Story, which became a big hit. However, the makers believed in this documentary film and released it. Surprisingly, the film is winning great appreciation and it has already collected Rs27.60 crores in just three days of its release, which is higher than many big Bollywood movies.
Obviously, the ‘Sachin’ factor is playing a big role in the box office success of the movie because the icon holds a huge place in the heart of almost everyone who loves cricket. The film collected impressive Rs8.40 crores on the first day and due to the positive worth of mouth, the collection kept on increasing over the weekend. On Saturday, the collection of the film was Rs9.2 crores and the Sunday numbers are around Rs10 crores, which took the collection of the first weekend to Rs27.60 crores approximately.
Sachin’s biopic has even taken lead from the last week’s releases Hindi Medium and Half Girlfriend, which were good at the box office. Not to mention, there is still competition from the mammoth tsunami called Baahubali. In addition, the film also released along with Hollywood blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean’s latest movie, which also enjoys a good following in India. Amid such competition at the box office and not being a typical ‘movie,’ Sachin: A Billion Dreams has really put up a very impressive performance.
It’s a wait and watch where this film actually ends up. Whatever, it scores; it will create a benchmark for the docu-dramas in Bollywood.
