Pakistan is going to host two back-to-back international tennis events by the end of this year. The president of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), Salim Saifullah recently said that the federation will host these events between November and December this year. Each event will have the prize money of $15,000, the PTF president added.
Mr. Saifullah said that the Manager of Training Centers and Event of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), Frank Couraud had recently visited Pakistan to observe the development of the sport in the country, where he assured that the ITF will provide $5,000 for each of the events.
While stressing on the significance of Frank’s visit, PTF president said that his visit will encourage other ITF officials to visit Pakistan in the near future. He added that PTF is planning to invite the ITF President to visit Pakistan and witness the final of Davis Cup ties between Pakistan and Thailand in September.
He said that by hosting Davis Cup ties successfully against Iran after a gap of 12 years, Pakistan has told the world that it is a sport-loving nation and it knows how to respect international stars. He said that Davis Cup ties against Iran played a crucial role in promoting the sports in the country.
However, the PTF president added that citing some security reasons, many tennis-playing countries are still not willing to visit Pakistan to play the sport here. He added that security situation has improved here and he believes that the successful holding of some international events will encourage international teams and stars to visit Pakistan again. Mr Saifullah added that Pakistan is ready to host Thailand for the Davis Cup ties.
