Nepal Failed to Qualify for the UFCU- 16 Championship

Nepal finished the UFCU- 16 Championship 2018 qualifying tournament with its position at the bottom line of the point table, which is led by Iraq. Nepal lost the last game to Palestine by a 2-1 margin on Sunday, September 24. However, the last game of the tournament was meaningless, as the earlier match between India and Iraq ended goalless. Iraq secured its spot for the final that will be held in Malaysia in 2018, while India secured its position in the second slot of the point table.

The match between Nepal and Palestine was played at the Halchowk ground, where Nepal lost the game against the visitors. However, the Nepali team played well in the match but failed to secure the last smile. It was Nepal that moved the scoreboard first when Birjesh Chaudhary scored the first goal of the match in the 10th minute.

Nepal scored the goal on a penalty shot after Palestine’s Ale Rabel brought down Nepal’s Akash Budha Magar. Palestine scored their first goal in the 28th minute when Palestine’s Mohamoud Wridat managed to beat Nepali goalkeeper and kicked the ball in the empty post. Wridat kicked the winning shot at 75th minute beating two Nepali defenders in the danger zone.

This was Palestine’s first victory in this tournament and in a post-match interview, Palestine coach Yahya Jalayta said that he is happy with team’s performance in the last game against the home team. He said that they played the match with high spirit and finally tasted a victory in the tournament.

Nepali coach Shreatha, on the other hand, called the match as worst in this tournament and said that the team lost against the weakest team. However, the coach appreciated his team’s performance and said, “My boys gave their 100 percent.”
