It can be termed as great news for the people of Sri Lanka that the Sri Lankan athletes have won four medals at the ongoing 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games 2017. The event was organized in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. Soon after the news broke out across the country, some people started to celebrate this victory. According to the report, Gayanthika Abeyratne has achieved the gold medal. She had clocked 2 minutes, 5.12 seconds in the final of women’s 800m. Two other athletes named, Amila Jayasiri and Indunil Herath had claimed two silver medals at the same.
The victory at the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games 2017 is a big achievement for Sri Lanka. Herath had completed the men’s 800 m final. He took approximately 1 minute, 49.45 seconds in order to finish second. He had been awarded the silver medal for becoming the second in the same. Another athlete named Jayasiri completed 7.45 metres in the section of Mens’ long jump. He also came at the second position and managed a silver medal as well.
Manjula Kumara has been awarded bronze medal in Men’s high jump along with a leap of 2.21 metre. All these medals achieved by Sri Lanka would help the future generation to influence in the field of athletics. The island country, Sri Lanka is represented by 21 different athletes in five different disciplines of sports at the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games 2017 that had taken place at Ashgabat, located in Turkmenistan from September 15 to 24.
