This would sound very odd but due to the unavailability of Army Stadium, the Bengal Classical Music Festival 2017 has been cancelled. This would probably the biggest blow to the cultural development of the nation. The announcement has been officially made by the Bengal Foundation. The organization has arranged a press conference on October 22regarding the cancellation at the Hotel Westin located in Dhaka. The press release told that the Army Sports Control Board (ASCB) has failed to approve the allotment of the army stadium on August 31.
Bengal Foundation had been allotted the stadium for arranging the Bengal Classical Music Festival 2017 from November 20-28 and the event would take place in between November 23-27. The whole arrangement for the Bengal Classical Music Festival 2017 now likely to be cancelled as the Pope from the Vatican City is likely to visit Bangladesh by that time. It was previously known that the Pope is about to visit Bangladesh on November 30. As there is no programme to take place at the Army Stadium, the foundation has reapplied for the approval on September 9. Till date, there is no progress made regarding the same.
However, the stature of the event and the requirement of extensive preparation have led to the cancellation of the event this year. An enlightening line up of the artists was being prepared for the event such as Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt. Ajoy Chakravarty, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, Kaushiki Chakravarty, Pt. Jasraj, and Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. The first Grammy winner from Asia, Vidwan Vikku Vinayakram was about to come this year’s event.
