According to the latest reports from a Bangladesh delegation in Vancouver in Canada, the renowned Hollywood star Angelina Jolie had expressed her willingness to meet Rohingya women who are still living in various refugee camps located in Cox’s Bazar. Earlier she had damned the sexual violence committed upon Rohingya women in the Rakhine state of Myanmar, where a military counter-insurgency operation has fled thousands of Rohingya refugees to cross the border and take their shelter in different refugee camps across Bangladesh.
Jolie is one of the special envoys from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). According to the statement of the foreign ministry of Bangladesh on November 16, she has been shocked to see the violence committed upon Rohingya women in Myanmar and later she had written accordingly in her keynote speech regarding the sexual violence faced by almost each woman Rohingya victim who had fled to Bangladesh in order to save their lives. It is almost clear that the Hollywood superstar is planning to visit but there are no official announcements made till date.
According to the official data, more than 607,000 Rohingya people have fled from Buddhist-majority Myanmar since late August. They were victimized by violence by the military for being accused of several separatist activities led by the thugs. One of the United Nations officials has termed it as a classic example of “ethnic cleansing.” Pramila Patten, the special representative of the UN secretary-general remarked on the sexual violence in conflict. She said that she would bring various accusations against the military force of Myanmar with the help of International Criminal Court in Hague.
