Government Will Take Actions against Private Hospitals if Found Guilty: Kejriwal

Following the alleged negligence committed by an eminent private hospital in the city of Delhi and state government’s decision to cancel its license, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that the government is not against any private hospital in the city, but it will not hesitate to take strict actions against those found guilty of medical negligence.

On November 30, Delhi’s Max Hospital erroneously declared a baby dead and handed over the body of the alleged dead baby along with his still-born sister to their parents. The baby later found alive and taken to a nursing home where he died a week later. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Delhi Medical Association (DMA) criticized the government decision and termed it harsh. The DMA also urged the Delhi CM to withdraw the decision. The body said that the government should wait for the report of Delhi Medical Council that will be released within a few days.

Ignoring all the criticism, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal attacked the previous dispensation in Delhi and said that they became accustomed to settling issues with compromise. He said that if his government practices the same, then they will not be able to face their conscience and lost of the faith of the people. He added that the AAP government is not against any private hospital, but it will not spare anyone if found guilty of criminal negligence and robbing of patients.

He also raised the issue of discoms and said that the government has not allowed power distribution companies to increase tariff in Delhi in the last three years. The Delhi CM said that he believes that the people of Delhi will support him in doing his work honestly.
