Nepal Affected By Cold Wave, Death Toll Reaches To 50

The southern province of Nepal has been victimized by intense cold weather this year. Extreme cold has resulted in claiming several lives and the latest report has claimed six more lives again.  According to the statements of the police, the death toll has been raised and reached up to 50 due to severe winter conditions across the Himalayan nation. Three citizens counting two septuagenarians have died across the district of Rautahat whilst another three, counting a two-year-old baby have lost their lives across the district of Saptari on January 13.

Life across the Himalayan region has been vastly disrupted by the cold waves that hit the districts across southern Nepal over the past week.  The official death toll has reached up to 50.  According to the report from the Kathmandu Post, numerous people have lost their lives in connection with a severe cold wave across the country this year.  It also reported that 27 of these deaths had taken place across the southern district, Saptari alone. On the other hand, five citizens were reported to be killed in a jeep accident in Sankhuwasabha district of eastern Nepal on January 14. Chief District Officer Shivaraj Joshi remarked, among the deceased, there was Khadga Katuwal, the chairperson of Makalu Rural Municipality.

The accident had taken place at Samatar of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality of and Sankhuwasabha district. The unfortunate jeep had been victimized of the deadly accident en route to Dovan of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality from district headquarters Khandbari at around 12 pm.  The officials later remarked that the jeep was reported to carry a group of staffs from National Reconstruction Authority. The reason behind the mishap is not clarified till now.
